Hello again on www.yonphotography.com. I know it has been a long time since I have posted any blogs or any photo’s. I have been really busy last months. With what, you might wonder.
School has finished for a while now, and the end of it was hard for me. I wanted to end this year with good grades. Since I missed some lessons I needed to make up for it. So therefore I needed to work really hard the last weeks. No time was left for entertainment or in this fact, my website.
Then vacation came and it was time to do some work and I did some photography jobs the past month. Summer Darkness was one of those things, what Summer Darkness is?
Please allow me to introduce it to you.
Summer Darkness is a festival held every year in the city centre of Utrecht. It’s the festival for the underground scene. At least, you see mostly black walk around. The festival shows the different sides of this scene. People see only the ‘dark and scary’ side, but they can see the open and free side here aswell. Since it’s held through the whole city no one is safe for this festival. In the blink of an eye, you’re sucked in it.
Fashion shows are held, there are many concerts and there is a big market on the Dom Square. It’s also a place many photographers go to, since some of the outfits are simply outstanding and there are also many models at this festival.
For the second year in a row I was at this festival for Up Magazine, and I would like to share my experience with you.
Last year (2010) I was for Up Magazine at this festival for their website, and this year they asked me for photo’s that they could use for their magazine. Happy as with what I was, I decided to do it, even though it was hard to plan around my vacation.
At the end of July the festival opened and I went there on saturday. This day I mainly did short shoots with new models; and models I already knew. I had a lot of fun and went to one of the concerts in the evening. Sadly the show was entirely red and my camera protested against the red.
The next day I photographed ‘easy shots’ of many people and photographed at some catwalks. Which I was really fond of. The models seemed to enjoy it.
I met a lot of fellow photographers and photographers I already was befriend with. It was a great day and I have some new models to work with aswell. Which I’m really happy with, and I want to thank the ones who decided to agree with it. As it was not the end already I put the photo’s on my earlier ‘website’, and a photoshop ‘wizzard’ found one of my photo’s. He was thrilled by it and asked my permission to work with it. The result is really outstanding in my opinion and we also decided to work more often together. So I can honestly say this festival was a succes for me.
